Baby bonnet and Granny square shawl

Twister bonnet

Last week we went to visit my husband’s grandmother in Dolna Mitropoliya. That’s a very small town in Bulgaria, which is famous for the air force academy there. 🙂 His grandmother lives with one of his cousins, who has an almost 1 year old baby. Actually he turns 1 in 2 days, yey!:)
My husband surprised me with the idea for that short trip and I decided to make a granny square shawl for his grandma and a baby bonnet for his cousin’s baby.
I chose Twister bonnet by Dora Creadora , it’s a free pattern. And I wanted to use some of my stash yarn. I chose a tweedy blue that I received from Fibreshare 2 years ago. I don’t have the label anymore so I don’t remember the brand. It turned out the yarn is a bit thicker than needed in the pattern, so I had to go down to 2.5 mm needles to get the gauge. But it did work out and the bonnet is actually very cute:)

Then I decided to use some more of my stash yarn to make a Granny square shawl for my husband’s grandmother.
I chose Donut from Stenli and with probably about half of the yarn I made a gorgeous granny square shawl:

The shawl is very easy to make. I started with 3 granny stitches, and then increased 2 in the center and then on every row I increase 1 at the beginning and 2 in the center 🙂

Both baby and grandma seemed delighted with their presents, but none wanted a picture, so no modeled pictures  :)))
