May we all count our stitches correctly from the first try!:D

Having 2 weeks to stay at home was a very good thing, despite me being ill the first week, and my son being ill the second 😀 In between Christmas, New Year and doctor’s appointments, I was doing a lot of swatches and trying out stitches. And I came up with a stitch, which probably has a name, but I couldn’t find it. If anyone has an idea, please comment. It looks like paws of an animal to me, so I’ve named it like that 😀 I’ve included this stitch in a nice worsted weight hat, modeled by my beautiful cousin Christine:

This is how you do a paw stitch:
You need to cast on a multiple of 4 stitches. Place the right needle in between stitch 4 and 5, yarn over, pull the yarn through, place it in front of stitch 1. Knit 2 together (the yarn over and stitch 1). Place the right needle in the same space (now between stitch 3 and 4), yarn over, pull the yarn through, place it in front of stitch 1. Knit 2 together (the yarn over and stitch 1). Place the right needle in between stitch 2 and 3, yarn over, pull the yarn through, place it in front of stitch 1. Knit 2 together (the yarn over and stitch 1). Knit the last stitch.

The Paw Hat

Size: Adult Ladies, easily adjustable, just add or remove multiples of 4 stitches.

You need:

1 skein of worsted weight yarn, I’ve used Alize Lanagold (240m/100g, 262 yds/3.5oz).
5mm circular needles (US 8, UK 6)

scissors
tapestry needle
stitch marker

Gauge:

17st x 20 st = 10×10 cm/4×4 in

Abbreviations:
st – stitch
k- knit
p – purl
kfb – knit front and back
k2tog – knit 2 together

Pattern:

Cast on 68 st, divide them on a circular needle for magic loop – 34 st on each needle.

8 rows of 1×1 k p rib.
row 9: k to the end of row
row 10: k1, kfb, k32, kfb, k1,k1, kfb, k32, kfb, k1 – (72 st.)
row 11: k to the end of row (72st)
row 12: k1, kfb, k34, kfb, k1,k1, kfb, k34, kfb, k1 – (76 st)
row 13: k to the end of row (76st)
row 14: k1, kfb, k36, kfb, k1,k1, kfb, k36, kfb, k1 – (80 st)
row 15: k to the end of row (80 st)
row 16: *paw st, k4* 10 times (80 st)
row 17, 18, 19: k to the end of row (80s t)
row 20: *k4, paw st* 10 times (80 st)
row 21, 22, 23: k to the end of row (80 st)
row 24: *paw st, k4* 10 times (80 st)
row 25, 26, 27: k to the end of row (80s t)
row 28: *k4, paw st* 10 times (80 st)
row 29, 30, 31: k to the end of row (80 st)
row 32: *paw st, k4* 10 times (80 st)
row 33, 34, 35: k to the end of row (80s t)
row 36: *k4, paw st* 10 times (80 st)
row 37, 38, 39: k to the end of row (80 st)
row 40-50 : k to end of the row (80 st)
row 51: *k2, k2tog* 20 times (60 st)
row 52: k to the end of the row (60 st)
row 53: *k1, k2tog* 20 times (40 st)
row 54: k to the end of row (40 st)

Cut the yarn and with the tapestry needle pull through all of the stitches to close the hat. Weave in the ends.
You now have a beautiful hat to wear 🙂
